There are new Magento 2 Patches 2.2.1, 2.1.10 and 2.0.17 with security enhancements for all Magento 2 versions. It is, as always, recommended to install them immediately.

Magento 2 has currently 3 different versions (the last was released on September), which are all way better than first beta versions. There is currently no need to use older versions – it is always a good idea to update to the newest release. As always some third party modules may have problems with minor version number jumps, so Magento offers security updates for all versions.
More and more shops use Magento 2 instead of Magento 1 and so security becomes a more important task. Magento 2 development focuses currently more on stable and security related topics.

Please use your composer script to update your Magento 2 project to fits current security needs. If you do not know how, see my post on how to update Magento 2. Installing of patches is easy, if you do not made core changes. In comparison to Magento 1, composer script method is easier to do. If you do not know how your shop reacts on such an update, test it on your development system and use git!
